The Shooting in Arizona

Writing on a blog I frequent, a very bright blogger condemned, in particular, Sarah Palin for her rhetoric, and concluded with what are actually pretty neutral words were they not SPECIFIC against the right:

“Words and graphics have consequences. You can say, ‘but that guy is unstable and took our words the wrong way’ or ‘he leaned left, not right so we’re not responsible’, it does not alter the incendiary, inflammatory, violent and obvious message which those words and graphics convey – that violence is the way to solve problems, that shooting and/or killing those you disagree with is an appropriate solution to political disagreement.”

To which I replied”

Is it only the rhetoric on the right that (the blogger) condemns, or does he equally condemn the words on the left, and in particular those of President Obama in June of 2008?

“Channeling the mob drama, “The Untouchables,” Mr. Obama said in reference to the general election rumble with the Republicans: “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.”
